Kylie Minogue

kylie_minogue.jpgBy wearing Kylie’s name on her T-Shirt at the 2000 MTV Europe Music Awards, even Madonna knows that Kylie Minogue is quite a contender for the title ‘Queen if pop’ and at 32, entertaining the world for over 14 years, she certainly deserves the title. Kylie Minogue, who hails from Australia, began her career as an actress in 1986 starring as Charlene in the popular soap ‘Neighbours’, fans were devistated when she and then real-life boyfriend Jason Donovan, decided to no longer appear on the soap.

Soon afterwards, at a charity gig, she and a couple of friends from Neighbours decided to sing a cover of The Locomotion and it was that day which brought us Kylie Minogue, the singer. She later released The Locomotion in Australia which was a massive hit and a number 1 for a long time. She then released I Should Be So Lucky both in Australia and Europe where I Should Be So Lucky became one of the most successful songs of
1988.

She released her No:1 debut album ‘Kylie’ (which is also the second most successful debut album from the youngest artist second only to Britney Spears) in 1988 which got her a string of hits around the world, even her only US hit single. She had another UK number one when she duetted with then boyfriend Jason Donovan on Especially For You, her second most successful hit to date. She released ‘Hand on Your Heart’, her 3rd UK number 1 which was from her second album ‘Enjoy Yourself’ in 1989 along with her first lead film role in ‘The Delinquints’ from which a cover of ‘Tears On My Pillow’ was released, her 4th UK number one and
another hugh European hit.

Actor Kelsey Grammer gets hitched on Broadway (AP)

NEW YORK – Kelsey Grammer has tied the knot for the fourth time in a familiar place.

The "Cheers" and "Frasier" star married 29-year-old flight attendant Kayte Walsh on Friday at Broadway's Longacre Theatre — the same place where the actor had been headlining "La Cage aux Folles" with Douglas Hodge until earlier this month.

Stan Rosenfield, a Grammer representative, called the event "a private ceremony for family and friends." A reception followed at the Plaza Hotel.

The ceremony was held before the evening performance of "La Cage," which currently stars Jeffrey Tambor and Harvey Fierstein.

Grammer, 56, received a Tony Award nomination for his role in the show, playing the suave owner of a glitzy drag club on the French Riviera.

The actor's divorce from his third wife, "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Camille Grammer, became final earlier this month. They had been married for 13 years and have two young children.

It's Walsh's first marriage.

The bumpy budget road to Oscars glory (AFP)

HOLLYWOOD (AFP) – Winning an Oscar will taste even sweeter for some films up for Hollywood's highest honors Sunday -- many less commercial movies struggle to get financed, and will savor success all the more intensely.

"Investing in independent films are financially very speculative, and generally anybody with a modicum of sanity stays away from them," said Jeffrey Levy-Hinte, producer of "The Kids are All Right."

The lesbian parenting film is on the 10-strong shortlist for best picture Oscar -- at least half of which, including frontrunner "The King's Speech," had to battle financially just to get off the ground.

The British historical drama, in the running for 12 Oscars, only made it because the powerful Weinstein brothers took a shine to the film's screenplay, about the stammering George VI.

The same goes for boxing movie "The Fighter," which was saved when mini-major Relativity Media put $25 million on the table after the initial investor Paramount pulled out, as did many of the original actors.

Films like Facebook movie "The Social Network" -- vying to edge out frontrunner "The King's Speech" at the Academy Awards -- were always expected to be box office hits, but for others prospects were less clear.

"The financing of 'Kids' was a long and winding road. Over the years studio divisions were interested, but ultimately none of them would greenlight the movie," recalled Levy-Hinte.

"In 2005 we entered preproduction only to have our financing evaporate. Ultimately, we brought in Celine Rattray who worked with us to bring in UGC-PH, Gilbert Films, and a dozen other equity investors to finance the movie."

The producer acknowledged that without the major league cast -- Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo -- the film could never have been financed.

"Without a first rate and recognizable cast there would be no possibility of financing the film, and even after we assembled our incomparable cast, we were only able to raise about 5 million dollars," he added.

In the end they had to make the movie in 23 days.

"At this breakneck schedule .. we had to greatly simplify the production of the film. The performances were never compromised, but we did not have the luxury of creating a more elevated, cinematic approach to the film," he said.

"We are looking forward to the next film where I anticipate more ample resources."

Meanwhile, "Black Swan," the disturbing ballet thriller for which Natalie Portman is tipped to win best actress Oscar, faced a similarly bumpy path when trying to get off the ground.

"We thought that we had a deal with somebody and they fell out at the last minute," said producer Mike Medavoy, recalling how investors Cross Creek came in the last minute.

"As usual in this kind of movie, it's really hard to put the financing together."

Even having director Darren Aronofsky -- who made the Oscar-nominated "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke in 2008 -- did not especially help.

"Nobody could have said that Aronofsky was about to do a movie that has done over 205 million dollars at this moment. Nobody in his right mind would have said that," said Medavoy.

He said films with medium-sized budgets -- around $20 millions -- "are always more difficult, because there is so much money to be spent on advertising and marketing.

"It's usually ten times the amount that you spend on making the movie. You really have to thread the needle. In this case, 'Black Swan' is a perfect example of a movie that threads the needle," he added.

Levy-Hinte lamented: "Every year it seems that financing is getting more difficult, and 'Kids' was by far the most difficult film that I have tried to finance.

"My hope is that we have reached the low point and the next one will be easier. That said I am not interested in making formulaic films that fit into the financiers preconceptions, and thus it probably will never be that easy."

Medavoy added: "I'm on my 214th movie and it's always difficult. There's always been a balance between the business and the artistic part of it.

"I'm never surprised in this business. It has always been difficult. If you look at almost every film that has won the Academy award, whether it's 'Amadeus,' 'Platoon,' 'Rocky,' 'Cuckoo's Nest,' they are all difficult films."

Arquette: I thought my wife was having an affair

David Arquette believed the rumors, too.

In his revealing Thursday interview on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" — his first sit-down since leaving rehab last month — the actor, 39, denied that he cheated on Courteney Cox, but confided that he suspected she had strayed.

PHOTOS: Courteney and David, the way they were

Although the couple announced their separation in September 2010, Cox, 46, began discussing a split months earlier. As the "Scream 4" actor has previously revealed, Cox gave him a motorcycle for their eleventh wedding anniversary and, in an ultimatum, said, "I don't want to be your mother anymore."

Shortly after that, Arquette explained to Oprah Winfrey, "She came down really depressed one day, and was like 'I'm really just not happy.'" His reaction?

PHOTOS: Last year's biggest cheating scandals

"I felt really sort of abandoned at that point," Arquette admitted. "A deal is a deal." (That phrase is engraved on the inside of the couple's wedding bands, which they exchanged in 1999.)

"I was angry with...the dynamic of our relationship," says the star, who has struggled with addiction all his life. " I was angry with my wife."

Further angering him: "There were tabloid stories coming out about her and someone on her show having, you know, an affair."

PHOTOS: Sad Hollywood splits

When Cox brought up the adultery rumors with him, Arquette says, "I thought she was having an affair with someone. Nobody would've said something like that if she weren't." (He now says he knows those stories weren't "true.")

Don't miss these Entertainment stories Vote: Which film should win best picture? 'King's Speech,' 'Social Network' are favorites.

Sorry, Charlie: No HBO show for Sheen 'Men' crew: 'Turd' Sheen can pay my mortgage 'Idol' semifinalist may have to drop out Ex-'Idol' hopeful worries about fiancee's future

Also at issue: Cox's huge success on "Friends," for which she made $1 million per episode in the final seasons. "She was on this incredibly successful show, so she made more money than me," said Arquette, who added that he sought therapy to cope. "I was sort of always in her shadow. And I'd held all this bitterness."

PHOTOS: The most-frequented celeb rehabs

Arquette also explained incriminating pictures taken of him with another woman last year. After shooting "Scream 4" in summer 2010, the spouses were secretly separated. "There was a period of time there that nobody knew about it," Arquette says. "I would go out and I was available again."

A month into that separation, he said, "I met a girl, there was a waitress at a place...It wasn't [an affair]...[Courteney and I] had an understanding. I was completely faithful."

PHOTOS: Biggest star meltdowns ever

Is there a chance for a reconciliation? "I love Courteney," Arquette proclaimed. "I don't know right now. I want us to be the best people we can be, and then if it's together—I want her to be happy, and if me even being the best person I can be doesn't make her happy in a partner--like, who she needs, whatever she's looking for—that's still to be answered."

He added: "I know that I'll be with her for my whole life. And we have an amazing family together and we're really great parents together."

Story: Arquette drank beer at age 4, stole pot at 8

How did Arquette explain his rehab stay to their six-year-old daughter Coco?

"I told her at first I had to go away to a camp, so maybe that part wasn't honest, but it kind of was," he says. When his little girl visited him at rehab, he told her, "I'm here to learn how to be a better person, but I'm also here so that I don't drink anymore because I've been drinking a lot."

Coco, he said, gave a big smile.

Charlie Sheen denies anti-Semitism in TV row (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Troubled actor Charlie Sheen denied Friday being anti-Semitic in an attack on the producer of hit TV series "Two and a Half Men," which has been canceled for the season due to Sheen's latest outburst.

Sheen also insisted he is sober and plans to turn up for work next week for the top-rated TV series, in which he stars. Four shows remain to be filmed this season.

CBS and Warner Brothers announced the cancelation on Thursday after Sheen, who was briefly hospitalized last month following his latest reported booze and drugs-fueled partying mishap, denounced the show's co-creator Chuck Lorre.

In a series of statements to radio and the TMZ celebrity website in the last few days, Sheen railed against Lorre, referring to him as Chaim Levine, the Hebrew translation of the TV producer's name.

"There's something this side of deplorable that a certain Chaim Levine -- yeah, that's Chuck's real name -- mistook this rock star for his own selfish exit strategy, bro," he said, apparently referring to himself.

"Last I checked, Chaim, I spent close to the last decade effortlessly and magically converting your tin cans into pure gold. And the gratitude I get is this charlatan chose not to do his job, which is to write," he added.

After the TV series was canceled Thursday, he added: "I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels, especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly, I have defeated this earthworm with my words.

"Imagine what I would have done with my fire-breathing fists."

Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti Defamation League lobby group, condemned Sheen's comments.

"By invoking television producer Chuck Lorre's Jewish name in the context of an angry tirade against him, Charlie Sheen left the impression that another reason for his dislike of Mr. Lorre is his Jewishness," he said in a statement.

"This fact has no relevance to Mr. Sheen's complaint or disagreement, and his words are at best bizarre, and at worst, borderline anti-Semitism," he added in a statement.

But speaking from the Bahamas, where he is reportedly vacationing with a new girlfriend, Sheen denied Friday being anti-Semitic.

"I was referring to Chuck by his real name, because I wanted to address the man, not the b (expletive) TV persona," he told TMZ, which said Lorre's birth name is Charles Levine.

Sheen, whose birth name is Carlos Estevez, added: "So you're telling me, anytime someone calls me Carlos Estevez, I can claim they are anti-Latino?"

Separately, ABC television cited text messages from Sheen insisting he plans to go to work next week on "Two and a Half Men," despite its cancelation announced Thursday by producers Warner Bros and CBS.

The TV series about hedonistic jingle writer Charlie Harper -- played by Sheen -- has been a hit since it was launched in 2003 and has been nominated for numerous awards, including nods for Sheen at the Emmys and Golden Globes.

The Nielsen ratings agency listed it in fifth place in its latest TV shows survey, with 14.5 million viewers for its last aired episode.

Sheen was reported as saying that he was close to signing a deal with Home Box Office for a new series called "Sheen's Corner," but an HBO spokesman denied there was a deal in place.

The star filed for divorce from his wife of two years in November, days after being taken to hospital following a reported drunken incident at a luxury New York hotel involving another porn star.

In addition to his reported substance abuse, Sheen had several run-ins with the law in the 1990s in cases related to drugs, domestic violence and prostitution.

Zoe Saldana Struts Her Stuff

For some reason, despite being in some big ass movies (like the Star Trek reboot and Avatar), Zoe Saldana has stayed pretty much under the radar.

Maybe she likes it that way: she sure as hell doesn’t look happy to have her picture taken here, does she? Maybe someone asked her what the hell was up with painting her lips as bright as a clown’s, I don’t know.

But that body of hers is definitely worth a second look. And then a third.

I knew Zoe had some long legs, but here she looks like she has a rack, too.

I’ll have to keep an eye out for what she does next (that doesn’t involve her being painted blue or green- unless that’s ALL she’s wearing).

Nick Jonas Is Not An Actor

By Deepika Rajani On February 18, 2011 But before you say anything to us, they were his words...

Nick Jonas Is Not An Actor

Even though he has acted in two movies and has made cameo appearances on TV, Nick Jonas has insisted that he is not an actor.

Talking to MTV News, the star who has stared in two of Disney's Camp Rock movies with his brothers Joe and Kevin, said:

"I think with anything, it helps to have a couple of experiences under your belt before you go and do something like a cameo or something like that. We were able to do a couple seasons of the TV show for Disney Channel and then two movies for them as well, so I've done some acting. But I would never really consider myself an actor.

"When the right roles come up and when it's something I feel like I can contribute to in some way, I like doing it."

Maybe Glee is perfect for the singer after we revealed yesterday that Nick said he would be "honoured" if he was offered a role on the hit show.

Rihanna Is A 'Regular, Ordinary Girl'

Despite her over the top outfits and risqué videos, Rihanna is a "regular, ordinary girl" according to Tinie Tempah.

Talking to Rap-Up TV about meeting the Bajan beauty, Brit rapper Tinie Tempah admitted that he was surprised at how normal Riahnna was when they toured together last year.

The rapper, who is our FIT FRIDAY this week, said: "I didn't know what to expect with Rihanna - you think, you're supporting a megastar, she's not gonna know you, she's not gonna care, but it was actually the opposite.

"It's nice to see somebody, behind the glitz and glamour and the flashing lights, is just a regular ordinary girl."

Tinie also revealed that Rihanna manages to stay calm and collected when she's out partying. (not something a lot of celebs can do, surely!)

He added: "I know she likes to party, but she really remained civil and demure and I like that. We definitely have high expectations of who you are and how you are and she definitely lived up to that.

"A little glass of champagne here and there."

Justin Bieber: 'There Is No Cure For Bieber Fever'

By Deepika Rajani On February 18, 2011 Alas, what are we going to do?!

Justin Bieber: 'There Is No Cure For Bieber Fever'

Superstar and the number one person to blame for "Bieber Fever" has revealed that there is no cure for it.

In fact Justin who's 3D biopic film, Never Say Never is out today, has said that "Bieber Fever" will only spread.

Talking to Bang Showbiz about the epidemic, Justin said: "They may be crazy but they're the ones that help me to be here and who put me where I am in the first place. I never worry about getting more fans as it spreads.

"And, by the way, there is no cure for 'Bieber Fever'!"

The singer and now actor also revealed that one of the symptoms of "Bieber Fever" was how fans would go to extraordinary lengths to meet him.

"I've done things like signed a cereal box before. But the weirdest thing that's been done to meet me? Well some girls have got tattoos of my name done. One mum has a tattoo of a radio DJ on her back, which she had done in order to meet me.

"The radio station had a contest and if anyone got the guy from the radio station's face tattooed on their back, they could meet me, and that was the contest, and she did it. It was pretty weird!"
