Bullock joins Hollywood pack in aid to Japan (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Hollywood has made plenty of disaster movies, but the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan is no fiction and the entertainment industry has responded to the dire situation there with generosity.

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock became the latest to join the cause when the American Red Cross said on Thursday that she had given $1 million to help victims of the disaster in Japan.

Several other celebrities and Hollywood studios have also pledged support to the nation.

Charlie Sheen, the embattled Hollywood bad boy, is donating $1 per ticket for all his upcoming live stage shows to the Red Cross.

Pop star Lady Gaga designed a bracelet for Japan relief and within 48 hours it raised $250,000, with sales ongoing.

Singer Katy Perry is donating sales of glow sticks on her concert tour to Red Cross relief in Japan.

Earlier this week, the Walt Disney Co donated $2.5 million to the American Red Cross for humanitarian efforts in Japan, and it also said it would match employee donations up to a total of $1 million.

The Warner Bros studio has pledged DVD and Blu-ray sales of its movie "Hereafter" to Red Cross efforts in Japan.

The donation by Bullock stands out as one of the biggest donations by a single Hollywood star.

The American Red Cross, which earlier this week announced an initial contribution of $10 million to the Japanese Red Cross Society, said it was "extremely grateful" to Bullock and her family for the gift.

Janet Jackson is Number One

Janet Jackson’s back on tour. Who knew? It’s her Number Ones tour.

Now, never let it be said I don’t give credit where credit is due. Janet’s body is slammin’. Those tits are works of art, I say.

Yet the shiny costume they’re stuffed into (along with the rest of that HOT body)… I don’t know. Makes me think of aliens or some shit like that.

Regardless, you KNOW every dude in the audience was praying for another “wardrobe malfunction.”

Hell, I’ll throw it out there: Janet, do another one of your virtually naked photoshoots. You’ll look hot. I know it. Let Jennifer Aniston know she isn’t the only hot chick over 40.

Elizabeth Hurley Goes Animalistic

So Elizabeth Hurley is invited to the KIDS 40th Anniversary Event in England. It’s a charity that helps disabled kids.

Great cause and all.

I guess Liz was hoping to make some hormonal teenage dudes and the kids’ fathers day by squeezing those lovely tits of hers (and the rest of that hot body) into an animal print dress?

Works for me.

Hey, it was a celebration, right? Looking at Liz’s body is cause for celebration ANY damn day of the week.

I’m sure she did it for the kids. This is all about the kids. Of course.

Tangled (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Tangled (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)Disney's 50th full-length animated feature film, Tangled is a visually appealing, music-filled adventure full of romance and humor. The movie focuses on Rapunzel, a girl with long magical hair who's lived her entire life imprisoned in a tower by her greedy mother. Naturally optimistic and acquiescent, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) rarely complains about her circumstances, but for her 18th birthday she longs to leave the tower to see the floating lights that appear every year on her birthday. Her mother (Donna Murphy) refuses her request, but when thief Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi) climbs the tower to escape his pursuers, Rapunzel (once she's conked him on the head with a skillet multiple times) impulsively decides to trust the young man and convinces him to help her escape to see the floating lights. Thus begins a journey that alternates quite schizophrenically between optimistic excitement and guilty remorse that will ultimately change Rapunzel's and Flynn's lives forever. Tangled is a masterful blend of humor, adventure, passion, and drama combined with a great musical score and top-notch animation. The Real 3-D effects add to the experience but probably won't really be missed in other formats. Best of all, Disney presents a princess who matures from a meek and compliant girl into a spunky young woman who's not afraid to pursue her dreams and risk it all for love--now that's a Disney princess worth emulating. Randy Quaid to debut 'Star Whackers' song

LOS ANGELES — Having evaded apparent Hollywood star whackers to get to Canada, Randy Quaid is to perform his new song, fittingly called "Star Whackers," in Vancouver on Friday night.

Quaid and the band The Town Pants are booked into Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom for the American actor's first gig since being granted permanent residency status in Canada by local authorities.

Quaid was allowed to stay in Canada because his wife, Evi Quaid, received her Canadian citizenship card in February because her father was born there.

More from THR: Quaid to receive Vancouver Critics' Award

The American actor was asked by the The Town Pants to host their Vancouver gig during the band's west coast concert swing. Town Pants lead singer Aaron Watson told the Globe and Mail newspaper Thursday that Quaid initially broached the idea of singing the "Star Whackers" song.

"He goes, 'Well, actually I've got some other things on the go, thinking that maybe I'd like to debut a song.' And we go, 'Oh yeah, what's that?' And he goes, 'Star Whackers.' And we're like, 'Uh, sure,' " Chapman said.

No script. All riff. Sheen tour details trickle out (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Charlie Sheen plans to "riff like an artist" from memory rather than use a script on his 21-date "Torpedo of Truth" tour next month, delivering a mostly spoken word performance of about 80 minutes, according to one of the show's producers.

Joey Scoleri told E! News in an interview on Friday that audiences would also get to ask questions of the fired "Two and a Half Men" actor, and he promised a "wild ride of highs and lows and dark and light and laughter and being surprised."

Few details have so far been released of the tour, which sold out quickly in several U.S. cities after the massive publicity enjoyed by Sheen's bizarre rants and his exit from the most-watched comedy on television.

The description on the Ticketmaster website for "Charlie Sheen's Violent Torpedo of Truth Defeat Is Not an Option" show reads merely; ""Will there be surprises? Will there be guests? Will there be mayhem? Will you laugh? Will you scream? Will you know the truth? WILL THERE BE MORE?!?! This IS where you will hear the REAL story from the Warlock. Bring it. I dare you to keep up with me."

Scoleri told E! News that Sheen was not using any writers.

"It's all Charlie. I don't think it's a script, as much as he is going to riff like an artist...He will probably do most of it from memory, he's that talented."

"There will be some multimedia, but largely just him and a microphone and he's going to talk, and having heard some of the stuff he is going to say, people are going to be pleasantly surprised. There will be some things that are shocking and provoking, but you're going to laugh," he added.

Sheen, who has been in and out of drug and alcohol rehab in the past year, was the highest paid actor on U.S. television before he was fired on March 7 because of what executives called his "dangerously self-destructive conduct".

Sheen fired back with a $100 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television and the show's producer Chuck Lorre claiming he was wrongfully terminated.

Scoleri said Sheen could make "several hundred thousand" dollars from each of his live shows but declined to give precise figures.

Celebrity website TMZ on Friday estimated he could rake in $7 million from ticket sales, merchandising and after-parties -- the equivalent of his salary for about four episodes for playing a skirt-chasing bachelor on "Two and A Half Men."

'Stand By Me' cast reunites 25 years later

The gang's all grown up! On Thursday, Jerry O'Connell, Corey Feldman and Wil Wheaton — the three remaining principal stars of "Stand by Me" — reunited at the Falcon Theater in Toluca Lake, Calif.

PHOTOS: See Jerry O'Connell go shirtless!

The occasion: The 25th anniversary (with accompanying DVD/Blue-Ray release) of the coming-of-age 50s-era 1986 classic. (Director Rob Reiner and narrator Richard Dreyfuss were also on hand for the look back.)

PHOTOS: Child stars all grown up

O'Connell, now 37, Feldman, now 39, and Wheaton, now 37, played pals barely in their teens on the hunt for a dead body, based on a story written by Stephen King.

Sorely missed from the reunion: Their famous costar River Phoenix, who made a legendary impression in the moving flick, and died of a drug overdose in 1993 at the age of 23.

PHOTOS: Shocking celebrity deaths

As for Phoenix's costars? O'Connell (who was a pudgy pre-teen in the flick) is now married with twins to Rebecca Romjin and stars in the TV series "The Defenders." Wheaton went on to become a regular on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and other sci-fi TV shows and films, and has a popular blog, Wil Wheaton Dot Net. He's also married with two stepsons. Feldman has had his own struggles with drugs and alcohol, and in 2010 mourned the loss of his pal and fellow child star Corey Haim. He is now a lead singer for the band The Truth Movement.

Jackson dad renews call for probe of son's death

MADRID — A week before jury selection begins in the manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's doctor, the late singer's father renewed calls for a federal probe into his son's death based on his belief a conspiracy was at work.

Joe Jackson, in Madrid to promote a worldwide tour of the hit Spanish musical "Forever King of Pop," said on Friday he believes Dr. Conrad Murray was acting on behalf of other people involved in Michael's career and said Michael had warned his family he would be killed over the publishing rights to hit songs such as "Thriller" and "Billie Jean."

"I want to get the other people that's involved, not just Dr. Murray. That's why I'm trying to get a federal investigation, so they can grab them all," Jackson said.

He characterized Murray as "just the fall guy," in an interview with Reuters, but declined to say who else he thought might be to blame in the death of his superstar son.

"I'm not calling names, but they know who they are," said the patriarch of the family of Jackson singers who helped define the Motown sound of the late 1960s and '70s.

"Michael knew that something was going to happen to him before it happened," said Joe Jackson, who wore his customary black fedora and gold chains.

Michael Jackson, dubbed the King of Pop for his many hits, died in 2009 at age 50 in Los Angeles of a drug overdose only days before he was to begin a series of comeback concerts in London. Murray was hired by concert promoters AEG Live to care for the singer as he rehearsed, and he was giving Jackson the anesthetic propofol to help him sleep at home.

But propofol typically is used in hospitals, not as a sleep aid. Coroners have ruled propofol was the key drug that caused Jackson's death and prosecutors have charged Murray with involuntary manslaughter for improperly administering it.

Murray has pleaded not guilty, and lawyers begin jury selection next week for a trial set to begin in Los Angeles on May 9.

Jackson's legacy
Joe Jackson was in Madrid to present an agreement between the Jackson Family Foundation and the Summum Music production company for a worldwide tour of the hit Spanish musical "Forever King of Pop," which the Jackson family has chosen "to represent Michael's legacy across the world."

Earlier this week Jermaine Jackson, the brother of Michael and a member of the Jackson Five singers, reached a deal with Crown publishing to release a memoir detailing his brother's life and promising to leave "no subject off limits."

Don't miss these Entertainment stories Don't like the 'Dancing' stars? Root for the pros! Remember that “Dancing’s” top honors aren’t just for the (sort of) star-studded cast. Those ballroom bragging rights are shared by the professional hoofers tasked with turning  celebs into dance-floor contenders.

Chat about 'Dancing' premiere on March 22 'Paul' is a sci-fi spoof with funny encounters Lindsay Lohan hits the clubs in NYC Dave Grohl fumes, 'Not everyone loves 'Glee'

In his life, Michael Jackson had claimed his father was abusive.

On Friday, Joe Jackson declined to comment on Jermaine's book, saying he was working on his own. He did not give details of his memoir, other than saying it would look at his "hard times" early in life, raising a family, working many jobs and molding his sons into the pop stars they eventually became.

Jermaine Jackson's book, titled "You Are Not Alone: Through a Brother's Eyes," is set for release in fall 2011.

Among the legacies left by the King of Pop, Joe Jackson highlighted his son's entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. "Thriller" remains the top-selling album of all time.

"I don't think anyone's going to beat that," Joe Jackson said. However, he predicted Michael's youngest son, Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket, would follow in his father's footsteps.

"He reminds me of Michael when he was small. Some people say there's never going to be another Michael in this life time. Well, we already have one, and he just happens to be a Jackson."

Prince William tours disaster hit Australia (AFP)

CARDWELL, Australia (AFP) – Britain's Prince William toured northeast Australia Saturday, commiserating with locals during a low-key tour officials hope will boost spirits after a series of natural disasters.

Thousands turned out to glimpse the second-in-line to the British throne as he visited the Queensland towns of Cardwell and Tully, which were smashed by the ferocious winds and lashing rains of Cyclone Yasi last month.

"It's been a tough time, hasn't it?" he asked one resident after arriving to cheers and applause in tropical Cardwell.

Queensland has been hit by a series natural disasters this year, with devastating floods in January covering an area bigger than France and Germany combined and swamping the state capital Brisbane.

Dramatic flash floods swept away entire homes, bringing the death toll to more than 30, but within days Queensland was facing another disaster in Yasi.

Police senior sergeant Peter Williamson said William was "extremely upset" by the view over Tully, one of several towns the monster storm ripped through early last month, causing widespread damage but miraculously claiming no lives.

"He said the only positive was that there was no serious injury or loss of life," Williamson said.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said many people were still living in "desperate circumstances" because of the damage wrought by Yasi's powerful winds, which reached up to 300 kilometres (185 miles) an hour.

"At the end today they will go home again to pretty desperate circumstances and this visit won't change that," she told Sky News. "But it might just gladden their hearts and that's, I think, a helpful thing."

William will visit flood-hit Queensland towns on Sunday before travelling to communities in the southern state of Victoria also inundated by floods blamed on the weather pattern known as La Nina this year.

The 28-year-old prince arrived in Australia following an emotionally charged two-day visit to New Zealand in which he paid tribute to more than 200 people killed in recent earthquake and coal mine tragedies.

On Friday, Prince William walked among the rubble of Christchurch, almost a month after an earthquake devastated the city on February 22, before attending a memorial service for the estimated 182 people killed.

The previous day he visited Greymouth, on the South Island's West Coast, and met the families of 29 miners killed late last year when a gas explosion tore through the Pike River colliery.

"I think what we've seen in New Zealand is a prince with a very human touch and a lot of compassion and you can't have too much of that in Cardwell and Tully at the moment," Bligh said.

Bligh said many Queensland communities were still recovering, but their grief was nothing on the scale of the disaster in Christchurch or the 9.0 magnitude quake and tsunami that hit Japan.

"But for a little town, when you lose a number of people then everybody feels it," she said.

One woman cheered by the prince was 102-year-old Betty Evans who spent several minutes with William after she showed him a card sent to her on her 100th birthday by William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

"She has always been a big fan of the royal family, so she was very happy to meet him," her therapist Marina Hoare told Australian news agency AAP.

"The moment I told her that Prince William was visiting she said: 'Great, what am I wearing?'"

Charlie Sheen merchandise clampdown has begun (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Now that Charlie Sheen is going on tour and selling merchandise bearing his famous slogans, his reps are clamping down on vendors selling goods that trade off the much-followed Sheen saga.

FEA Merchandising, a subsidiary of Live Nation, has been busy in the past 48 hours, sending takedown notices and cease-and-desist letters in an attempt to own the exclusive market on Charlie Sheen merchandise. In the process, the company has stepped on the toes of a woman's rights group protesting the Sheen saga with a charitable endeavor.

As we reported Thursday, a number of companies and individuals have already beaten Sheen to the trademark office, registering such catch-phrases as "winning," "tiger blood," and "Adonis DNA." Without a firm trademark stake over these marks, FEA has been exploiting a different protection maneuver -- claiming that products that bear Sheen's words violate his publicity rights.

For example, Kate Durkin says she was horrified by the reception that Charlie Sheen has been receiving in the media and among people on Twitter. So she, along with several others, set up an organization called Unfollow Charlie, intending to sell the t-shirt design bearing that slogan and donating the proceeds to the charity RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network).

After setting up shop at Zazzle.com, an online retailer that allows users to upload images and create their own merchandise, Durkin was notified that the design would be taken down as the result of infringement. She got an e-mail that stated:

"Unfortunately, your product was removed because it featured a design that does not meet Zazzle Acceptable Content Guidelines. Specifically, your product contained content that violates Charlie Sheen's rights of celebrity/publicity. Charlie Sheen's name and likeness are protected by rights of celebrity/publicity and may not be used on Zazzle products without permission."

Durkin followed up, questioning whether her product was removed because her group was critical of Sheen's following.

FEA doesn't seem overly concerned with Sheen's image, however, as much as attempting to lock down the market.

Another Zazzle retailer who was attempting to sell a t-shirt with "#winning" emblazoned on the front reports also being subject to a takedown notice over Sheen's publicity rights.

The use of publicity rights to protect slogans is extremely rare but not unprecedented. Nearly thirty years ago, for instance, Johnny Carson sued a toilet manufacturer who attempted to sell portable toilets bearing the phrase, "Here's Johnny," supposedly inspired by the late night talk show host's introduction each night on his program. Carson was successful in the lawsuit.

More recently, in a lawsuit that involved publicity rights in merchandise, FEA and Live Nation sued Rolling Stone magazine for slapping its famous cover images of musicians on t-shirts, tote bags and other items. The publication asserted in a summary judgment motion that it had a First Amendment right to the merchandise, which a judge declined to grant without seeing more evidence. Before the case got to trial, however, the dispute was settled.

The big issue in FEA's claims is whether it is overstepping its authority. Is a term like "Unfollow Charlie" evocative of Sheen's "personality" to the extent a judge would see it as unfair commercial exploitation of the actor? Does a charity organization attempting to express a viewpoint deserve free speech protections?

FEA hasn't responded yet to our inquiries.

Kate Middleton's See-Through Dress Fetches $125,000 at Auction (ContributorNetwork)

A see-through dress modeled by future princess Kate Middleton at a 2002 student fashion show sold for an eye-popping $125,000 at an auction in London Thursday.

According to CNN, the black and gold silk mini dress went to a private buyer whose agent would only identify him as "Nick from Jersey." (Jersey is an island in the English Channel located between England and France.)

"It's an iconic piece and he is very happy with the purchase," said the agent. "It's a great addition to his collection."

Reportedly, Prince William was in attendance at the above-noted annual University of St. Andrews Don't Walk fashion show when Middleton traipsed down the catwalk in the dress and, according to reports, it was this moment that sparked the romance between the handsome young prince and comely princess-to-be.

Middleton and Prince William are scheduled to be married at Westminster Abbey on the Feast of St. Catherine on Friday, April 29. The wedding, which will be televised by the BBC, will be broadcast throughout the world.

Throughout the years, a number of other "iconic" pieces of clothing and accessories have sold for considerable amounts of money at auctions. Below is a list of some of the more notable items.

Michael Jackson's Gleaming White Glove

In 2009, the rhinestone-encrusted white golf glove Michael Jackson wore in 1983 when he debuted his moonwalk dance on Motown's 25th anniversary TV special sold for $350,000. It was purchased by Hoffman Ma of Hong Kong on behalf of Macau's Ponte16 Resort Hotel.

Elvis' Jumpsuit

Elvis Presley's white peacock jumpsuit fetched a whopping $300,000 at an auction held by online auctioneer and collectibles company Gotta Have It! in 2008. The high-collared, blue and gold jumpsuit was Elvis' favorite performance costume.

Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday Mr. President Dress"

This dress is truly iconic. On May 19, 1962, Monroe rocked this sheer, tight-fitting, jewel-encrusted dress while singing a smokey, breathy rendition of "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy The dress was purchased in 1999 by the above-noted collectible firm Gotta Have It! for a stratospheric $1,267,500. Company president Robert Schargen considered it a steal at that price.

Robert De Niro testifies in NYC art fraud trial (AP)

NEW YORK – It's a role that moviegoers might not know Robert De Niro plays: overseeing his painter father's estate.

The Academy Award-winning actor served as a star witness Friday in an art-fraud trial, testifying against a former gallery director accused of selling some of the late Robert De Niro Sr.'s works without paying his family its share.

Seeming as self-assured on the witness stand as his characters are on screen, De Niro told jurors about his family's dealings with the now-shuttered Salander-O'Reilly Galleries LLC, giving detailed answers and drawing laughs at times from a courtroom packed with reporters and onlookers.

But overall, he told a story of coming to doubt an art dealer he'd trusted and considered a friend.

"I wasn't watching as carefully as I probably should have" early in the estate's involvement with gallery owner Lawrence Salander," De Niro said. But "I trusted Larry implicitly. I thought that anything that he did, it was going to be good."

Salander pleaded guilty last year to bilking about $120 million from De Niro Sr.'s estate, John McEnroe and other clients. On trial is Salander's former gallery director, Leigh Morse.

The 54-year-old Morse is accused of participating in Salander's scheme and pocketing $77,000 in proceeds from selling two of the actor's father's paintings. She has pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and other charges.

De Niro Sr., an abstract expressionist who had "become a little cynical" about art dealers over the years, selected Salander to represent his works, and "I could see why he liked him," the actor said. After his father's 1993 death, the actor continued to entrust the estate's works to Salander, having some dealings with Morse as well.

Sale proceeds and most expenses in getting the artworks sold were to be split 50-50, according to an agreement shown in court.

The gallery arranged shows for De Niro Sr.'s work in several European cities and in Tokyo, and the actor said he attended some and "felt it was going well" at first. But over time, he started wondering about how Salander was financing private plane rides and other expensive plums.

"It didn't seem to add up to me, but I was under the impression that there were big deals going on in Europe and so forth, and he was making a lot of money in art," said De Niro, dressed for court in a gray-green velvet blazer and crisp white shirt.

But after a contemporary of his father's said he felt he was being cheated by Salander, De Niro began asking questions — "gingerly," he said. Then he discovered that Salander had signed over ownership of some of his father's work to a gallery in Venice, Italy, without his permission, a move prosecutors say Salander made in 2006 to satisfy his own heavy debt to the gallery.

When asked about relinquishing the paintings, "He said, `Oh, that's nonsense,' da-da-da, da-da-da," the actor said. "I felt he was either delusional — deluding himself — or not being honest, and I just didn't have time for it."

After cutting ties with the gallery in late 2007 or so, he learned the estate hadn't been paid its portion of any sales after 2001, he said.

Morse and another gallery employee tried to woo the estate's business back, but "I wanted to make a clean break from all the bad stuff," the actor said.

Easygoing and forthcoming with his testimony — to the point of being asked at times to wait for a question to end before replying — the "Raging Bull" and "Analyze This" actor gave the court a wry glimpse of his often flinty characters when one of Morse's lawyers asked a somewhat convoluted and hypothetical question about his opinion of a certain financial practice of the gallery.

"I don't know where you're going, sir," De Niro said to a laugh from the courtroom audience.

Morse's lawyers say the crimes were Salander's, not hers. The top charge against Morse carries the possibility of up to seven years in prison if she is convicted.

Salander, 61, is serving six to 18 years in prison.

Sesame Street: 25th Birthday - A Musical Celebration!

Sesame Street: 25th Birthday - A Musical Celebration!Yes, Virginia, there was a Sesame Street before the Age of Elmo. This 1993 collection highlights the role of music in the long-running series from Children's Television Workshop, and reminds us that such Jim Henson creations as Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Ernie and Bert were once part of a true ensemble of Muppet superstars. Nothing against Elmo, of course: kids adore him and he makes enough appearances in this anthology (including the show-stopping "Happy Tappin' with Elmo") to keep today's tykes happy. Also included is Ernie's classic "Rubber Duckie" (really, who doesn't know the words to that?), Oscar's anthemic "I Love Trash," you-know-who's "C Is for Cookie," and Big Bird's Big Finale, a rendition of "Sing" that includes the entire cast. There are 27 tunes in all, and they don't all involve singing puppets: Ladysmith Black Mambazo turns up for one track, and the "Sesame Street Jam Session" includes some actual playing of instruments. --Tom Keogh

Snooki Kicks Off Spring Break in Vegas

This may be a time of vacation for most of us (it’s Spring Break time, for those of you who don’t have kids/are working adults), but for the Jersey Shore crew, this is BIG MONEY time. Here’s Snooki, who hosted a Kick Off to Spring Break party in Vegas.

All that chick has to do is prop those (sizable) girls up, squeeze her ass into the smallest dress it’ll fit into without splitting up the seams, and then get drunk off her ass.

And she gets PAID for that shit.

Well, it’s probably worth the money to watch her ass stumble around drunk. You know all the dudes in there were waiting for a wardrobe malfunction. The sight of one of those big titsnaked would be worth quite a bit, especially to some college dude.

'Batman' butler Michael Gough dead at 94

Bruce Wayne has lost his best friend and father figure.

Michael Gough, the actor who helped the Caped Crusader out of jams as Alfred the butler in Tim Burton's "Batman" and starred in dozens of films over a career that spanned five decades, died Thursday. He was 94.

After being tapped for Alfred Pennyworth in 1989's "Batman," Gough reprised the part in 1992's "Batman Returns," also directed by Burton, as well as two Joel Schumacher-helmed sequels, 1995's "Batman Forever" and 1997's atrocious "Batman and Robin." But he did so much more.

The Malaysian-born thesp made his feature debut in 1947's "Blanche Fury" and worked extensively in British films opposite a who's who of legendary actors from Vivien Leigh and Ralph Richardson to Sir Laurence Olivier and Christopher Lee. He also appeared on British TV, most notably in several guest stints in the sci-fi cult series "Doctor Who." He also gained horror fans with several "Hammer" flicks to his credit, including 1958's "Dracula" and 1962's "The Phantom of the Opera."

Among his Hollywood credits are "The Boys From Brazil," "Out of Africa," "The Fourth Protocol," "The Serpent and the Rainbow," and "The Age of Innocence." His final big-screen role came in 1999's "Sleepy Hollow," which reunited him with Burton, but he also lent his voice to 2005's "Corpse Bride," which the filmmaker produced.

No announcements have been made regarding funeral plans for the late actor.

McConaughey has usual swagger as 'Lincoln Lawyer' (AP)

Matthew McConaughey stars in "The Lincoln Lawyer" as an attorney who drives around Los Angeles ... in a Lincoln. It has nothing to do with the capital of Nebraska or the former president. While you're watching it, though, you'll wish it did.

Director Brad Furman's film, which John Romano wrote based on the Michael Connelly novel, has the slick, disposable feel of the sort of legal drama you could find any night of the week on primetime TV. From the opening titles and underdeveloped characters to the quick pacing and flat lighting, "The Lincoln Lawyer" seems insubstantial, recycled and forgettable.

Now, this may sound vaguely familiar to you. If so, please bear with us. McConaughey plays Mick Haller, a cocky, sleazy defense attorney who thinks he's got it all figured out. He woos the women — including his prosecutor ex-wife and the mother of his daughter, played by Marisa Tomei — banters comfortably with biker gangs and generally weasels his way out of every tricky situation.

The swagger was far more charming when McConaughey played a lawyer 15 years ago in "A Time to Kill," which is still the best adaptation of a John Grisham novel. The main difference between this role and most others he has played since then is he manages to keep his shirt on, for the most part.

But, because this is a McConaughey movie, his character will have his comeuppance, and it comes in the form of a high-profile case. Beverly Hills real estate heir Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe) is accused in the rape and attempted murder of a prostitute. His expensively dressed mother (Frances Fisher) feels comfortable that Mick is the right man to defend her son, and not her company's esteemed, longtime legal counsel.

Besides, Louis insists he's innocent, so it should be no problem. But this pretty boy is, naturally, more dangerous than he looks. Despite the many twists and turns and double-crosses, Mick actually ends up learning nothing and has no arc — he's just as unctuous at the end as he was in the beginning. The only time he appears to lose control is when he gets hammered at the local watering hole where everyone else gathers to get hammered — and those moments seem so incongruent with who he is, they make no sense.

Among the strong but woefully underused supporting cast are William H. Macy as Mick's best friend, a private investigator; Bryan Cranston as a homicide detective whose screen time looks suspiciously truncated; and Michael Pena as a former client of Mick's whose case will become crucial later on. McConaughey and Phillippe have a decent back-and-forth in a couple of scenes — at least until Phillippe turns into a villainous cartoon character.

"The Lincoln Lawyer," a Lionsgate release, is rated R for some violence, sexual content and language. Running time: 119 minutes. One and a half stars out of four.

Sheen hits setback in lawsuit with Warner Bros.

LOS ANGELES — Charlie Sheen has been dealt a procedural blow in his lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television and "Two and a Half Men" co-creator Chuck Lorre over his firing from TV's No. 1 comedy show.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the private dispute-resolution company JAMS on Tuesday sided with WBTV and Lorre in deciding that its own arbitrator has jurisdiction over the dispute.

The move means the confidential arbitration will go forward despite Sheen's request that the fracas be litigated publicly via the $100 million lawsuit he filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Story: Charlie Sheen to be subject of TLC special

The decision, communicated in a letter from a JAMS lawyer to all the parties, makes it much more likely that Sheen's high-stakes legal war with Warners and Lorre will be resolved in private — and not in a public trial, as Sheen has said he is entitled to under the law.

More from THR: Singer's letter to JAMS (pdf)

The moves are the latest legal maneuvers stemming from Sheen's abrupt dismissal from TV's most-watched comedy.

Sheen's lawyer Marty Singer on Wednesday criticized the decision, and his partner William Briggs fired off a response letter to JAMS challenging the ruling.

Singer told The Hollywood Reporter that the dispute-resolution company should let a court decide the matter.

"JAMS is wrong," Singer said. "This case involves many different parties and different issues, and it should not be subject to an arbitration agreement between Charlie Sheen and Warner Bros."

Singer's letter, a copy of which was obtained by THR, also threatens to ask a judge to stop JAMS from going forward with the arbitration.

"In the unfortunate event that JAMS decides to proceed with the arbitration process, JAMS will force my client to seek judicial relief, which may include enjoining JAMS from proceeding with this matter," the letter states.

More from THR: Sheen's lawyer explains why star's suing

Warner Bros. asked JAMS to initiate an arbitration on March 4 in response to threats by Sheen and Singer that the actor would sue over his termination. Sheen's contract with the studio includes a broad arbitration clause providing that disagreements be resolved by a JAMS arbitrator, but Sheen has no contract with Lorre, his Chuck Lorre Prods. or CBS, which airs "Two and A Half Men."

Singer last week filed a bombshell $100 million lawsuit on behalf of Sheen and the "Men" cast and crew alleging a conspiracy among Warners and Lorre to shut down the series.

Texas beauty queen to court: I was never size 6 Pageant: Miss San Antonio’s bikini photos ‘unusable’ Cooper and Zellweger reportedly split Dave Grohl fumes, 'Not everyone loves 'Glee' 'Paul' is a sci-fi spoof with funny encounters

Lorre asked JAMS to consolidate Sheen's disputes with Warners and Lorre into one private arbitration.

Now has JAMS decided — over Singer's objections — that it has the authority to settle both the Sheen vs. Lorre and Sheen vs. Warners battles.

More from THR: Lorre lawyer responds to Sheen lawsuit

If Singer can't stop the whole mess from going to private arbitration, Sheen would lose a significant piece of leverage in the case. Juries tend to side with high-profile celebrities and the prospect of Sheen getting a public venue in which to expose Warner Bros.' private financial information and attack the studio and producer, might have prompted Warners to settle.

Singer, for his part, is still confident.

"Whether we go to arbitration or court, we still feel we will prevail because the facts and law are 100 percent in our favor," Singer said. "I can understand why Chuck Lorre wants to keep this in a secret tribunal. When the facts come out they will show that he and Warner Bros. had absolutely no basis to terminate my client."

Tiger's ex buys mansion near Woods: report (AFP)

PALM BEACH, Florida (AFP) – Elin Nordegren, the ex-wife of Tiger Woods, has purchased a Florida beachfront mansion larger than the golf superstar's nearby island estate home, the Palm Beach Post reported Friday.

The newspaper said Nordegren, a 30-year-old Swedish former model who divorced Woods last August, spent $12.2 million for a 17,000-square foot home built in 1932 with eight bedrooms in a gated community near North Palm Beach.

Last week, Woods said he was soon moving into a $60 million beachfront mansion at Jupiter Island, 10 miles north of his ex-wife's new place, that is surrounded by a golf training area where he can work to improve his game.

Nordegren and the couple's two children, three-year-old daughter Sam Alexis and two-year-old son Charlie Axel, are expected to move into their new home in the next few weeks.

The arrangement should allow their children to be exchanged easily. Woods stressed in a media blitz this week ahead of the launch of a new videogame bearing his name that he is greatly focused on his role as a single father.

Woods, a 14-time major champion chasing the all-time record of 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus, has not won since November of 2009, just before a car crash that unveiled his infidelity with multiple mistresses and made him a comedy punchline.

The sex scandal led to a five-month hiatus from golf for Woods and his eventual divorce as well as the end of most of the endorsement deals that made him the first billion-dollar pitchman-athlete.

Woods will try to snap his win drought next week at the Bay Hill Invitational, near the Orlando homes where each of them now reside.

Katherine Schwarzenegger out from Arnold's shadow (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Katherine Schwarzenegger is not your average 21 year-old college student. She is the first-born child of ex-California Governor and Hollywood movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver.

But in her own right, Katherine is an author, and she raises money for charities including her uncle Anthony Shriver's group, Best Buddies, a volunteer program to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Recently, Schwarzenegger teamed with luxury goods company Montblanc to promote a partnership in which Montblanc will donate to Best Buddies 11 percent of the money it earns from 11 stores over an 11-day period in March. She spoke with Reuters about it, her book, and what life is like now that her famous dad is back home after his term as governor.

Q: Both your parents have accomplished a lot in life. What traits do you think you inherited from them?

A: "They're both so similar in their working minds. I think my dad is the kind of person who, no matter how much criticism he gets, keeps trucking right through and does exactly what he sets his mind to. So the ability to follow your dreams and your heart, I probably got from him. But I also got that from my grandma (Eunice Kennedy Shriver). When she was starting Special Olympics, people thought she was insane for doing it."

Q: Your dad was a Hollywood star and governor. What was the difference in the two, for you?

A: "It's definitely different going to visit your dad at work on a movie set and visiting him in the state Capitol. I was in 7th or 8th grade when he ran for governor. The biggest change for me was having California Highway Patrol officers follow us everywhere, which was a huge thing to get used to for me and my siblings (laughs)...I also think being a politician's child brings more pressure to be on your best behavior than being an actor's child."

Q: Has life returned to what it was, pre-governor?

A: "I don't think it can ever go back. We can't get rid of the fact that for seven and a-half years our dad was a politician. In those seven and a-half years we became the people we are today...Then, of course, coming home and having my dad always there is another interesting adjustment (laughs). He has to keep in mind I'm not 13 anymore like I was when he ran for governor. I live in my own apartment. I am in college.

Q: For you, has your name been a help or a hindrance?

A: "It depends if people like my dad or not. If they don't like him, you're totally in trouble because you're related. If they do like him, then they automatically love you."

Q: Other than being a supportive family member, why get involved in this venture with Best Buddies and Montblanc?

A: "Many people are afraid of those who have intellectual disabilities. I remember in high school my friends were terrified. It's important to show that they are normal people who enjoy friendship and sports and working on projects."

Q: How did you go about showing that?

A: "I was in charge of the Best Buddies group in high school and recall many times where my friends were out of their comfort zone when they partnered with someone on an art project or participated in a soccer game. But 45 minutes out of their day playing kickball makes the other person's entire week."

Q: You published a book last year about body image called "Rock What You've Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who's Been There and Back." At 21, don't you think you're a little young to have "been there and back"?

A: "In high school I was absolutely miserable with my body and my appearance and didn't feel confident in my own skin. Then I went off to college and realized what a waste of time it was to focus on that. I think the reality is that if you're 20, 25 or 30 years-old, you've been there and back, hopefully."

Q: Was there an incident prompting you to write the book?

A: "I have so many young girls in my family and in my life and I saw how they talk about their bodies and their appearance. Eight-year-old girls looking in the mirror and saying 'I'm fat.' At that age you shouldn't have those concerns. I knew I had to write something."

Q: You could do so many things. Why go to college?

A: "I would never not think of getting a college education. I've taken several classes that have sparked my interest in the issue of body image and women's role in the media. That definitely drove my interest in writing parts of the book."

Q: What is your ultimate goal?

A: "I want to leave my footprint in the world and change something for the better. I don't know if it's going to be by talking to young girls or my various other interests. If I've helped one person or more, that's my biggest goal."

Sean Penn thanks Venezuela's Chavez for Haiti aid

CARACAS, Venezuela — Sean Penn thanked Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Saturday for supporting the actor's relief organization in Haiti, saying the aid has helped its humanitarian work in distributing medicines.

Chavez met with Penn at the presidential palace and praised the actor's efforts with his J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which was founded in response to the catastrophic 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

Neither provided details about how much financial assistance Venezuela has provided to the group.

The Oscar-winning actor noted that in addition to Venezuela's financial help, his organization has also received support from the U.S. military.

Penn called that ironic, adding: "We hope that this kind of collaboration can be an example for future approaches to many other issues" — in spite of limited U.S.-Venezuelan diplomatic contacts.

The U.S. and Venezuela have been without ambassadors since December, when Chavez formally rejected the White House's nominee for envoy in a diplomatic dispute. The U.S. government revoked the visa of Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez in response.

Penn has met four times with Chavez in recent years. Chavez has praised the actor for his critical stance toward U.S. foreign policy.

The leftist president said their meeting Saturday was productive in discussing "new plans and ideas."

"Sean is an activist of the struggles for the world's oppressed peoples, and he's leaving for Haiti right now," Chavez said outside the presidential palace when they emerged from their meeting.

Huckabee denies criticizing Portman pregnancy

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Friday denied that he was criticizing Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman when he suggested her pregnancy was glamorizing the idea of having children outside of marriage.

Huckabee, who is considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination, earlier this week complained about the perception of celebrities like Portman having children while unmarried. Portman, who won an Oscar for best actress for her role in "Black Swan," is expecting a child with fiance Benjamin Millepied.

"One of the things that is troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,'" Huckabee told radio host Michael Medved on Monday. "But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie."

Huckabee made the comments after Medved mentioned the Oscars and Portman's pregnancy. Huckabee said the public wasn't seeing the financial struggles single mothers face.

Huckabee also said in the interview that "it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-children wedlock."

A publicist for Portman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

On Friday, Huckabee accused the "Hollywood media" of distorting comments that he said were more about society as a whole and not Portman. Huckabee praised Portman as an actress and said he's glad she and Millepied are getting married. Huckabee said he wasn't trying to attack Portman or single mothers.

"My comments were about the statistical reality that most single moms are very poor, under-educated, can't get a job and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death," Huckabee said in a statement posted on his political action committee's website. "That's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that society often glorifies and glamorizes the idea of having children out of wedlock."

It's the second time this week that Huckabee has stepped back from comments he's made while promoting his new book. Huckabee suggested in a radio interview on Monday that President Barack Obama's childhood in Kenya shaped his worldview — even though Obama did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20s.

Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was detained in a 1952 uprising against British colonial rule in Kenya. Huckabee said childhood stories of the Mau Mau rebellion would lead President Obama to want to remove from the Oval Office the bust of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who ordered a crackdown against that uprising.

The executive director of Huckabee's political action committee later said the former governor misspoke and meant to reference Obama's childhood in Indonesia, where he lived from the ages of 5 to 10. He didn't explain the reason Huckabee mentioned the Mau Mau uprising.

The winner of the Iowa caucuses in 2008, Huckabee has said he's seriously considering another run for president. His national book tour schedule includes stops in Iowa and other early GOP contests.

Huckabee's comments on Portman echoed remarks Dan Quayle made in 1992 when he went after the TV series "Murphy Brown" by saying its depiction of a single mother was irresponsible and set a bad example for America. The Republican vice president said the fictional character was "mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another 'lifestyle choice.'"

Sean Penn says he'd welcome Sheen's help in Haiti

>> well, what may have gone wrong is the fact that he spoke about the fact that there was a deal. because generally there is a confidential itity clause about such deals. and if there is an allegation that he breached it, it may have upset the other side and therefore the deal may be off.

>> his wife's emergency restraining order alleges physical domestic violence , but yet she didn't file a police report . would that work against her if there was no police filing?

>> well, she's not required to file a police report and she has not filed a police report . i find, however, that her allegations in her declaration in support of the restraining order , which was issued, are very troubling. and she could file a police report and if she did, it might be referred by the police to the district attorney for prosecution. because she alleges threats, menacing of her, that he said he would cut her head off and send it in a box to her mother, that he threatened her with a pen knife , threatened to stab her in the eye with it, that he's made other threats to her. and of course given the history of violence in the past, that he was convicted of assaults brooke mueller just in december of 2009 . and given her other allegation that in october 2009 , he knocked her to the floor, that she became unconscious, that she has photos of that and two witnesses. yes, that history of domestic violence is very, very troubling.

>> let me bring jeff back in. jeff , mueller if her court filings says she believes charlie's rage is due not to anned a dinan anned a addiction, but to mental problems. recently passed a couple of drug tests . you're not a sigh cpsychologist, but what's your sense of his reality?

>> we talked to some experts about that. some say he may be going crazy because he's not on drugs. he's abused drugs and alcohol and living a certain lifestyle for so many year, decades in fact according to some, that if you took something away that you used every single day that was such a big part of your life for decades, how would you react. it's sort of the way experts put it. and in this case it's a physical addiction , as well. so while the drug tests have come back negative, while i do believe he's been clean in the past week at least on the times that i have seen him, there is clearly something going on where he doesn't fully have a grip on reality. it is his reality. he is confident in it. he's lucid when i speak with him. and so it's very difficult to say, this is somebody who has such a high level of self-confidence, some would say narcissism, that it's tough to know if he's just delusional or if this is just somebody who is uber uber confident.

>> and this train that left the station a week ago with the rant, is there any regrets on this or is he just playing it sf.

>> no regrets at all. in fact there have been a couple of occasions where he said something so outland addition and it's been sort of an off the record setting, we've beenle rolling tape and just get something shots of us, but it was so outrageous, i called hip and said this is good stuff. i'd love to use it. since you actually do believe it, is that okay. and i would repeat back to him what he said. and one of the cases it was you told cbs that you want them to lick your feet while publicly apologizing to you. can we use it. and he said, yeah, use that. use that. i think the crazier it is, the more he likes it. no question he has no guilt, no regrets.

>> or i can' gloria, you had a comment.

>> when you were talking about his mental state , it's interesting that in brooke mueller 's declaration, his wife, soon to be ex-wife's declaration, she says that he is insane. that, in fact, if he is sober, then she is concerned about his mental health . and so it's going to be interesting in the legal case for custody, for visitation, about if there is a battle because, lester, everything that he says, it can be used against him if it might have an impact on the children and their safety.

>> all right, gloria allred , good to have you here. jeff , as well. thanks so much to both of you.

Could Sheen really kick addiction with his mind?

Whether or not you're watching Charlie Sheen go from TV actor to celebrity train wreck, the "Two and a Half Men" star has stirred a pot when it comes to his criticism of the addiction treatment industry.

Sheen's televised rantings against Alcoholics Anonymous, his statements that he possesses "tiger's blood" and has cured himself of drugs and booze through "his mind" have raised eyebrows among professionals who treat people with addictions.

The question remains: can you quit smoking, drugs or alcohol by willpower alone? Experts say it's possible, but add that many who do usually relapse or weren't technically addicted in the first place.

"Lots of people can quit on their own for a short time, but there's always the risk they may return to use and that happens frequently," said Ryan Vandrey, assistant professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Mmm, cinnamon. A whiff can boost your mood Healthy to-do of the day! Women who sniffed a whiff of cinnamon reported positive feelings days later, a study shows.

"How do you define recovery?" Vandrey said. "I'm sure (Sheen) has gone several weeks or months without getting high or getting drunk, then he goes again. At what point do you define him as cured? Many people say it's an ongoing disorder."

For those who haven't been following the tabloids, Sheen has had a public history of stays in various rehab centers beginning in the 1990s. He has also been arrested in several publicized domestic violence episodes and accidentally shot an ex-girlfriend.

But it's the past few days when things started getting weird. CBS shut down production of the top-rated show "Two and a Half Men" after Sheen's verbal attacks against the show's producer. Sheen said he left rehab to cure himself at home along with two girlfriends he calls "The Goddesses." And this week, a Los Angeles judge issued an order removing his two-year-old twins from his home after allegations of violence by his soon-to-be ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, who also has had a public history of drug use.

Despite Sheen's history (and perhaps because of it), some psychologists say that rehab centers that offer an intense 30-day stay aren't the answer for all patients.

"This is one of the big myths that the treatment industry perpetuates on the public," said A. Thomas Horvath, a psychologist and president of Practical Recovery, a San Diego treatment center. "The majority of the public do so on their own. Rehab in itself is no panacea or (Sheen) wouldn't have to go so many times."

Horvath says his program tries to change people's behavior without using a 12-step program, the model used for decades by Alcoholics Anonymous.

Beat Deafness: A Man Lost in Musical Time Mazda Issues Recall Over Spider in Fuel Tank Designing Protest-Friendly Cities Enzyme Brings Back Old Memories

"The most common way out of addiction is natural recovery, which occurs using informal resources, and not treatment or a recovery support group," Horvath said. "The treatment industry downplays this fact or denies it, probably because it is not good for business."

Horvath says his approach uses standard psychological techniques to change behavior. He and others interviewed by Discovery News agreed that most people suffering from drug or alcohol dependency have multiple problems, which may include various forms of mental illness or psychological conditions, such as bipolar disorder or manic depression.

That makes identifying the causes or behavior -- and getting people to quit -- even harder, according to Michael Fingerhood, director of the Center for Chemical Dependence at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

Fingerhood said he has had patients relapse after 15 years of staying sober and their tolerance for high levels of drugs or alcohol returns as if they had never stopped. He noted that different drugs affect the brain in different ways. Smokers who use a nicotine patch have about a 25 percent success rate, while those who stop without anything have a 5 to 10 percent rate, Fingerhood said.

When it comes to alcohol, Fingerhood said about 5 percent of people who say they can do it on their own actually succeed.

"It takes months of abstinence to be able to think clearly," Fingehood said. "Your neurons aren't connected for a while after drinking heavily."

Drugs like cocaine and heroin have a success rate somewhere in between smoking and alcohol, he said. With his patients, Fingerhood says he looks for small improvements rather than absolute cures.

"You hope that as people go along, the amount they relapse gets shorter," he said. "Some will go a month of being sober, then they drink for five or six days. Then maybe they'll stay sober for several months or a year. "

Some see poetry in Sheen's 'Adonis DNA'

NEW YORK — With "tiger blood," "Adonis DNA" and his "fire-breathing fists," Charlie Sheen has practically invented a new language with his rants and ramblings.

And while it may not rate an entry in Webster's, the sitcom star's batty, blustering poetry has resounded in social media. Sheen gained 1 million Twitter followers in just 25 hours and 17 minutes — record time, according to Guinness World Records, which keeps track of such obscure achievements and had not previously crowned a champion in this particular category.

His unique lexicon grows daily, spreading rapidly over the Internet and onto T-shirts. On "The Alex Jones Show," he said he has "poetry in my fingertips," and added: "Most of the time — and this includes naps — I'm an F-18, bro. And I will destroy you in the air."

He has frequently repeated his most famous sayings — "winning," "tiger blood" — like trademarked catch phrases. Early Thursday, he announced his latest slogan — er, "fastball" — with more hype than a CBS promotion for his show, "Two and a Half Men."

"Ready for my next fastball, world?" he wrote on Twitter. "PLAN BETTER Applies to everything where an excuse now sits. Try it. U won't be wrong. Ever."

Watch Fallon's 'Winning!' Sheen impression

Sheenspeak could be considered a demented combination of William S. Burroughs' beat musings and those Chuck Norris jokes in which the '80s action star is inflated to mythic proportions.

"I am on a drug," Sheen told ABC. "It's called Charlie Sheen. It's not available because if you try it, you will die. Your face will melt off, and your children will weep over your exploded body."

Sheen has said his former party exploits made Frank Sinatra and Mick Jagger look like "droopy-eyed armless children." He has called himself "battle-tested bayonets." And he's said he's riding the "tsunami of media ... on a mercury surfboard."

Glossaries have sprung up to help keep track of Sheen's vivid verbiage, which he has spewed consistently during his feud with the studio and producers who shut down "Two and a Half Men" because of his erratic behavior. CBS Corp. chief Leslie Moonves has said the series' future is uncertain.

The question of whether Sheen's bizarre bravado is a ploy, a sign of mental-health problems or a combination of both has grown more urgent as it has encompassed his private life. The actor's estranged wife, Brooke Mueller Sheen, has claimed Sheen threatened to cut her head off, among other things. Their twin toddlers were removed from Sheen's home Tuesday night.

Despite the accusations, Sheen's ramblings have gone a long way toward endearing him to some of the public. The Twitter analysis firm Research.ly has found that positive sentiment for Sheen online far outweighs the negative.

Online, his best sayings have been compiled into lists, compared with the meandering speeches of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, substituted into New Yorker and Family Circus cartoons, added as subtitles to pictures of cute animals, put to song and remixed, and mashed-up with his scene from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

Though the 45-year-old Sheen hasn't previously been widely known to be lyrical, he has penned a book of poetry before: 1990's "A Peace of My Mind," with illustrations by director Adam Rifkin. It's out-of-print, but GQ located a copy and has been publishing excerpts.

One verse: "A night of drink/ A night of hate/ A night as dark/ As last night's date."

For his tweets, Sheen built a following much faster than Ashton Kutcher, who had been on Twitter for months when the actor won his much-publicized race with CNN to 1 million followers in 2009. Kutcher now has about 6.4 million followers, while Sheen was approaching 1.4 million Thursday night.

Sheen, who has called social media a "cash cow," seems likely to profit from his instant Web stardom, though he has not done so yet. He is being advised by the startup company Ad.ly, which helps celebrities earn money in endorsements on social media.

He already has at least one grateful business — a dairy whose owner told TMZ he's been flooded with calls since Sheen posted a photo of himself holding a bottle of the company's chocolate milk. The American Red Cross tried some cross-marketing of its own with this tweet: "We may not collect (hashtag)tigerblood, but we know our donors & volunteers have fierce passion for doing good!"

Wherever his words take him, Sheen won't fail for lack of positivity. As he's said: "Can't is the cancer of happen."

Sheen: My mom is Jewish, so I'm Jewish

The Charlie Sheen saga continued on Friday with a new interview with Access Hollywood Live.

After a whirlwind week filled with more media rants, the removal of his twin boys from his home on Tuesday and a temporary restraining order from estranged wife Brooke Mueller (also Tuesday), Sheen called in to Access Hollywood Live on Friday morning to put accusations of anti-Semitism to rest as he revealed that he himself is Jewish, and to dish on his plans to travel to Haiti with his pal Sean Penn.

“My mom is Jewish. Here’s where it gets confusing — we don’t know who her father was,” Charlie told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover during the phone interview on Friday’s show. “But she is, in fact, Jewish. So, I guess that would make me Jewish, and my children Jewish. And Brooke [Mueller], my ex-wife is Jewish. So, I guess I should’ve rolled all that out too.”

“I know, I know — stupid me,” Sheen replied. “I just got caught sleeping. Caught napping. Which is rare for me. Anywho... But, I’m proud of it. There you have it.”

The “Two and a Half Men” star also confirmed that he plans to travel to Haiti next week with friend and fellow actor Sean Penn.

“We’re going to do a couple things first and then it looks like we’re heading down [to Haiti],” Sheen told Bush and Hoover of his plans to visit the earthquake-ravaged nation with the Oscar winning actor. “And I’m excited as hell because, you know, if I can bring the attention of the world down there, then clearly this tsunami keeps cresting.”

Penn founded the J/P Haitian Relief Organization immediately following the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti and frequently visits the struggling country to continue his charity work. The former “Milk” star recently weighed in regarding the Sheen saga in an interview for the April issue of GQ, offering his support for the embattled actor.

“When you divorce the moral judgments, which I prefer to do, I see a guy who has a clearer view of the nature of the world around him than is sometimes comfortable to have,” Penn reportedly told the mag of Sheen’s recent behavior. “Those are the sort of people who have a tendency to find altered states.

“But [Charlie] is a very ironic character,” Penn continued. “He’s got pretension in the crosshairs of his wit. I think to a large degree he’s saying, ‘Guys, we’re only going to be here once, so lighten the f--- up.’”

A source revealed the Haiti trip news to Access on Thursday evening — a claim Penn’s rep denied at the time. The rep was not immediately available for comment on Sheen’s new travel announcement when contacted by Access Hollywood on Friday.
